SUA in Nitra Again the Most Sustainable University in Slovakia in the Global UI GreenMetric Sustainability Ranking

The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA in Nitra) confirmed its leading position among Slovak universities in the field of environmental sustainability also in 2025. In the latest UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025, SUA in Nitra ranked 174th out of 1,745 participating universities, reaffirming its strategic commitment to sustainable development and its active approach to addressing contemporary environmental challenges.

“This ranking reflects the systematic efforts of SUA in Nitra to reduce its environmental footprint while maintaining a high quality of life for the entire academic community. Building a greener campus, improving energy efficiency, and supporting research and education in sustainability remain our key priorities,” said Hana Zach from the Office of Project and Transfer Activities at SUA in Nitra.

The year 2025 marks a historic milestone for the UI GreenMetric ranking, with a record 1,745 universities from 105 countries participating. This represents a significant increase compared to the previous year, when 1,476 universities from 95 countries were assessed. The growing participation highlights the increasing global emphasis on sustainability in higher education and the rising engagement of universities in addressing climate change, energy efficiency, water and waste management, and education for sustainable development.

SUA in Nitra has once again confirmed its traditional first place among Slovak universities participating in the ranking. No other Slovak university in UI GreenMetric 2025 has reached the top tiers in terms of environmental engagement. Other Slovak universities included in the ranking were the Technical University in Zvolen (1,041st place), Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica (1,132nd place), Technical University of Košice (1,452nd place), Catholic University in Ružomberok (1,491st place), and the University of Žilina (1,565th place). Within the Visegrad Four (V4) region, where 39 universities were evaluated, SUA in Nitra ranked 7th in 2025.

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is an internationally recognized sustainability ranking that assesses universities’ environmental, social, and economic performance using comprehensive criteria. These include energy efficiency, waste management, water management, transportation, and education and research in sustainability, evaluated through 58 indicators.
